Finally I got my Z1 back a couple of weeks ago after the gearbox got stuck in reverse. Apparently a fork in the gearbox had broken and needed replacing. I had taken it to a garage in Barnet to have the gearbox removed for repair and after some phone calls to various gearbox repair firms that quoted me between £300-£800 + vat LMFAO. I manage to find a reputable non rip-off merchants gearbox repair firm in Tottenham that charged me only £150 and it was fixed in 3 days.
Total bill:
| Remove and replace clutch and gearbox | £450 |
| Gearbox repair | £150 |
| New clutch (as the gearbox was out, even though clutch not half worn) | £140 |
| Replacement prop bush | £45 |
| Total | £785 |
Sure hope no other Z1 owners have any gearbox problems. One bonus, I was told the gearbox was in very good condition for the age of the car.
Here are some pictures of what the garage had to do to; I would have removed the gearbox myself, had I had the use of a ramp.
